Paeonian Spring Pool Garden

This project is an example of a typical challenge; integrating a pre-existing architectural feature (in this case a swimming pool) with the house and outdoor living area.  The goal was to create outdoor rooms spacious enough for entertaining large groups of people, creating some shade and tying it in with the architecture of the house.

As you step out of the sunroom, the pattern used in the paver-concrete pool-deck draws your eye lengthwise across the pool to the seat wall and pergola that encloses the outdoor room on the opposite side of the pool.  These lines are centered on a circular stone hot tub.  The combination of pavers, concrete and stone help the hardscape feel organic.

Careful attention was paid to grading and drainage on this job.  There are walkout basement doors that open to a small paver patio that is recessed and terraced up to the pool area.  There are stone steps that tie the spaces together.

The plants were chosen to provide the highest impact during the summer when the pool is bustling with activity.  We were able to utilize some pre-existing viburnums to give this job an instantly mature feel.
