Stone Retaining Walls in Lovettsville

We love working on historic homes and enjoy the challenges involved with these types of projects.  On this particular job, there was an existing patio with a steep hillside on either side.  The homeowner wanted to access the lower part of the yard from the existing patio.

Great care was taken in securing the stone for this project.  The idea was to make the stone walls look like they were built at the same time of the home – the late 1700’s.  We matched the steps up with the brick and flagstone on the existing patio.  The lines of the retaining walls follow the architecture of the house.

We were able to save some wonderful English Boxwoods and redistribute them.  On the terraces between the walls we planted Annabelle Hydrangea as a nice complement.  The lines of some existing beds were changed to incorporate new and old work.
